I finally started my externship today. I say finally because A) more than half of my fellow externs started at least two weeks ago, and B) I have until the 24th of next month to get in 165 hours. Now, if I was doing 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, that'd be no problem. But I can't work on Tuesdays, since that's the day that my externship seminar (when we externs get together and talk about our experiences) and my CMA review class are. I'll be doing roughly 8 1/2 hours a day, 4 days a week. It's going to be close.
So anyway, all I did was follow another MA around. I watched her do the various paperwork type things she does, and when we had patients I took their vitals while she did all of the "what are you here for" type questions and put everything into the computer. And I watched her give two tetanus vaccines and do one EKG. Hopefully when I go back on Wednesday I'll get to do a little more than weigh people and take their blood pressure.
I'll say this much, I'm going to sleep good tonight. I'm whipped.
