Oh, the pain, the pain!
Jun. 25th, 2003 02:32 amThree years ago I sneezed, and somehow managed to lock up all the muscles in my neck and upper back on the right side. It eventually relaxed and went away, but ever since then, every so often, for no apparent reason, it flares up. Usually it only lasts for a day or two, and a couple of Aleve and some moist heat do the trick. Having said that, I'm now on day 5 of the most recent flare-up. Even after having seen my massage therapist it would not relax. The tension and inflammation are excruciating. And, as much as I believe the medical profession has become an exercise in trial and error, I was forced to go to a doctor. Missing 2 days of work because of this might have had something to do with it. And, amazingly enough, I happened to get a doctor who actually seemed to not only care, but was eager to heal my pain. Rather than the old anti-inflammatory and low-grade muscle relaxer routine, this guy actually gave me a shot of a high-test anti-inflammatory, and gave me a scrip for REAL muscle relaxers. I wouldn't say I'm all better, but I'd call it 75%-80%. I can turn my head again! At least now I can resume my duties of taking care of my partner and her surgerized hand. Surgerized...is that even a word? Well, it is now!
Be well all.
(not that anybody ever reads my mindless droning) :P

I try to avoid pain pills themselves but you have to do what you have to do. Iceing is great, of course, sometimes alternate with heat can be cool. Injections of what you got are great and sometimes last months. Various steriods, usually, and very effective if done correctly. Massage is wonderful and wish I could get some myself. Mainly be sure to rest enough and keep your body loose when you go to sleep...nothing like sleeping wrongly to wake up with things worse.
