Heh, I just realized something. As of roughly 13 hours ago, it's been 2 years since I quit smoking. I polished off my last cigarette right around 6 am on July 5, 2005.

Take it from me, folks. If you're thinking of quitting, it's not easy but it's not impossible either. This is coming from the guy who always pictured himself trying to quit with a second skin of nicotine patches, a box of nicotine gum in his mouth, screaming "I WANT A CIGARETTE!!!!!!!!!" Yeah, it can be done. ;)

And with how much the damn things cost these days, you'll save yourself a metric shit-ton of money. I figure I probably averaged around a pack a day for 13 years, with an average cost of roughly $4.00 a pack. So, $4.00 a day for 730 days is $2920.00. That's roughly half the cost of top surgery with some surgeons. Pretty significant.

Okay, I'm done sounding preachy. I'm really not one of those rabid militant ex-smokers who goes around cock-slapping smokers and such. Really.

Perfect timing for me to read this. I'm trying to quit. Almost 11 yrs for me. I tried to quit one time before, and only lasted 2 wks. What exactly did you do to quit? I tried the patches, that lasted 3-4 days, then I tried the rest of the 2 wks without anything. I've also heard some positive things about a product called Chantix, thought I'd give it a try. Anyway, congrats, man!

My doctor put me on some pills that I can't remember the name of a couple three weeks before my quit date to help reduce my dependence on/craving for nicotine. Then she gave me 2 weeks of free patches to help with the cravings and withdrawls after I had put the cancer sticks aside. Since the patches are ridiculously expensive I didn't buy any after my two free weeks' worth were gone. Never heard of Chantix, so I can't help you there.

I also probably had some extra help, in that my other half didn't quit, so I got plenty of nicotine through second-hand consumption.

The worst part was all those things that triggered the desire to have a cigarette, like waking up, eating a meal, taking a shower, or taking a nice healthy dump (TMI?). But that eventually eased back too.

Good luck. I know it's a bitch.

Yay, good for you. I smoke the hookah pipe every few days/once every other week or so, and I think that's all I ever really do.

I'd rather spend my money on something much better for myself, like alcohol. :P

I never tried the hookah, but I wanted to. It always looked so relaxing and social, way more fun than cigarettes. Ah well, probably wouldn't be a good idea now. :P

I'm not going to get into how much money I've spent on alcohol, or how much I could potentially save if I quit drinking too. I'm no alkie, but I do have high-maintenance tastebuds.

Hookah's not addicting, and hellz do I feel fantastic while smoking it. It's actually not all that bad because the water soaks in most of the nasty before it reaches you. If you decide to try it, go for grape or apple first, they're more traditional flavors.

You don't want to know how much of savings account I depleted in Europe last year on alcohol alone. As a result, it's now too fucking expensive to get drunk for me anymore, I'm no lightweight. Thank that and rugby and all the keggers, too. I have to go for the hard stuff now if I want anything more than a slightly relaxed feeling, ick.

I finished my last cigarette on June 19th, for my birthday this year. It's been an incredible cold turkey experience, so far. Even around smokers and second hand smoke, I don't crave.

I HAVE THE POWAH.
