Aug. 8th, 2007 12:44 amFirst day in the books. I spent the entire day assembling the same section of the Wii over and over and over and over and over...yeah. Eight hours putting in the same 4 tiny screws on assembly after assembly, somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 times by the end of the night.
It's nice, but at the same time kinda really weird, to have the guys seated to the immediate right and left of me not even question my gender, and just react to me like I was any other guy. I'm still a little unsure of the whole "guy interaction" thing. Especially when the guys in question are your basic late-20's southern guys, one white, one black, both ripped straight from the pages of Stereotype Monthly. Yeah, I basically kept my mouth shut and my head down in my assemblies most of the night.
The supervisor said I did good, though. So that's a positive.
I'm going to finish my beer now, possibly have another, then go crawl into bed and hope my kitten has gotten all of his "RAWR ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111ONE" out of his system. Because nothing spoils a nights' sleep faster than 2 pounds of sharp pointy bits landing on a buttock.

Date: 2007-08-08 05:20 pm (UTC)I know exactly what you mean about the work environment with the guys. I worked at a shipyard full of union workers (100+ longshoremen) so it was hella stereotyped. I wasn't sure what to expect or if they would know since I'm not passing 100%, but I fit in perfectly, no one ever said anything negative or questioning and all interacted with me as male.
anyway, hope ya got some sleep.
